Situation of International Acadeic Staff in Poland Conference

About the conference

Whereas the well-being of international students is high on universities' priority lists, the situation of international academic employees, including Ph.D. students, receives far less attention. The forthcoming one-day conference, organized jointly by SWPS University's Faculty of Psychology in Wrocław, the Committee of Foreign Affairs at the Main Council for Science and Higher Education (chair: Professor Katarzyna Byrka), and the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP) International Affairs Committee (chair: Professor Jerzy Lis) and Communication and Social Responsibility Committee (chair: Professor Roman Cieślak), aims to address this pressing issue. The pivotal question the conference will tackle is whether Polish higher education institutions (HEIs) create an open and supportive environment for the international academic community.

The meeting will be organized around three sessions, each dedicated to exploring following aspects of the theme:

  1. Do Polish HEIs attract foreign academic staff, and if so, how?
  2. What are the challenges and barriers for the international academic staff coming to Poland?
  3. How can we draw on foreign and Polish solutions and good practices?

Participation in the conference is free of charge.

The event will be held in a hybrid format, with a limited number of in-person participants.

The organizers plan to write a report on the conference and an article in the Forum Akademickie journal as a follow-up. Therefore, they will hold an open meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Main Council and the CRASP Committee of Communication and Social Responsibility on Tuesday, June 20, from 9:00 to 12:00.
